Assistance in locating the serial number of a boat motor
Please tell me how to find the serial number on a boat motor. I have a Honda, but I think the principle is the same as for Yamaha or other motorboats. Is that right? I checked under the handle, on the hull, near the transom mount, and couldn't find anything. I'm thinking, maybe the number is actually stamped on the engine block or somewhere on the side, under the paint? But the problem is that I can't see anything. How do I know which side to look at for this number?

Hondas and Yamahas are pretty much the same. The serial number is typically located on the right side of the bracket. Can't see it? If the plate is painted over, try gently wiping it with solvent; the numbers often appear. You may also find a duplicate number stamped on the engine block itself, under the shroud and closer to the base.
