MediaTek RT5370 is a high-performance 802.11n Wi-Fi SoC with USB 2.0 interface. RT5370 features integrated 802.11n baseband (150Mbit/s), MAC (media access control), power amplifier and low-noise amplifier, along with both transmit-receive and antenna diversity switches.

Channel bandwidth: The maximum channel bandwidth that is supported. Beginning with 802.11n, channels can be combined to create a wider channel that allows for more data to be transmitted during a single transmission. With 802.11n for 5 GHz band, two 20 MHz channels can be combined to create a 40 MHz channel. With 802.11ac for 5 GHz band, four 20 MHz channels can be combined to create an 80 MHz channel.

MCS index: The Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) index defines the maximum transmission rate at which 802.11ac/n devices can communicate. 802.11ac uses Very High Throughput (VHT) and 802.11n uses High Throughput (HT) frames.

I've been having issues with the WiFi ever since I purchased the notebook, but lately it's been getting unbareable. Turning the wifi off and on, used to buy me some time early on, but now it has a hard time even connecting to the network, and when it does it ridiculously slow. Downloads at

This package provides the Broadcom Wireless LAN drivers for supported notebook models running a supported operating system. Broadcom Wireless LAN drivers are required to enable the integrated Broadcom Wireless LAN adapter.

It supports a 150Mbps PHY data rate and fully complies with 802.11b/g/n specifications.

The simplest way to determine the 802.11 protocol of a network is to reveal the hidden advanced wi-fi details from within the wireless menu in Mac OS, where you will find band PHY mode and other information. The following tips work the same on virtually every vaguely modern version of Mac OS and Mac OS X.

This trick can be particularly helpful if your router is dual-band (or greater) and you want to know which 802.11 protocol the SSID is using before connecting to it. For example, some routers may broadcast multiple networks, say an 802.11ac along with an 802.11g, but you might want to connect only to the 802.11ac broadcast.

Of course you might also want to know what WLAN modes and protocols your Mac wi-fi card actually supports and what it can connect to. This will let you know if a Mac WLAN NIC is compatible with a particular wifi mode. Fortunately Mac OS stores these details within the System Information app.

I have found that 802.11ac is quite good and is not only fast but has a long range, whereas 802.11n seems to have a weaker signal. My network broadcasts both with dual access points for compatibility I suppose, but I always try to connect to the 802.11ac access point for maximum speeds. 350c69d7ab
